Biography

I have drawn the figure from a model for more than 40 years now- I started in high school, and it was my introduction to art.  I paint from the same model each week. In many ways, she is my muse.  The figure , it’s beautiful lines, like a landscape , always will be an inspiration to me and my work as an artist.

I have a large press in my studio, and much of my figurative work is monotype prints. I paint on a piece of plexiglass and then transfer the painting onto a piece of paper. Each monotype is unique, and is an original piece of artwork. I make no reproductions.  I like the monotype process, because there is always an element of surprise.  Things turn out differently than I might imagine each week.  The lack of control with the ink and the press gives my work a spontaneity that I don’t have in a painting. I’ve been working with monotypes since 1998, and I still can be delighted or dismayed with an outcome!

I can also use a body of monotypes as an inspiration for a body of larger paintings.
