| Biography | |
Babita Das, after acquiring Master of Fine Arts (Printmaking) degree from
Vishwa Bharati University (1992) - a renowned seat of learning in arts and
culture - had the privilege to work as Indian National Scholar (1992-93) in
some of the prestigious institutions (e.g.,M.S.Univeristy, Baroda; Lalit
Kala Academy, Madras; J.J.School of Arts, Mumbai). Then followed a spate of
22group and 12 solo exhibitions of her works. within a span of a decade
(1990-2006), in numerous cities known for their patronage of arts. This
opened up avenues for her national and international exposure, achievements were (a) an invitation from Ministries of Culture and of
Education of France and regional Councils to perform various workshops and
shows (5 - 28 March 2004) in Guadeloupe, French West Indies, to celebrate
the festival 'Autour Du Tempa Des Poetes"; and (b) an innovative
self-created audio-visual presentation "Bandish" - a symphony of painting
synchronous with music -- at Music World, Kolkata, 2002. Babita did attract peer recognition and connoisseur appreciation being the
recipient of some of the most coveted awards, including Residency at Vermont
Studio Center, Vermont, USA, 2002.
The Scientific Commitee of 5th Biennale, Florence, has selected Babita Das as an Artists representing India, to show case 3 Paintings at Fortezza da Basso, from 3rd to 11th Dec ,2005at the " International Biennale of Contemporary Art."
2006: Solo exhibitions at Badantogast, Black Forest,Oppenua, in Germany
: Solo exhibition at L. V Prasad Institute in Bhubaneswar( Eye Hospital)
: Solo exhibition in KOLKATA, Princeton Club
: Participated in a workshop, Art Plainer,NIDA, at Lithuania with 20 artistes.
: A solo Exhibition in Klaipeda, Lithuania
: Participating in International Business and Cultural Symposium, at Brussels
: Exhibiting Ptg at Geneva, Palace Hilton, from SALON ANNUAL D'ART ARTISTES CONTEMPORAINS 2006
2007 ; Coordinated and escorted a workshop at Vilnius Art School,with 9 indian students from Kolkata
: Solo exhibition at Weavers Centre for Ars, Kolkata
2008 ; Painted a private house wall at Manila, Philipinnes
: Invited at Dhaka, Bangladesh, to paint on music
: Solo exhibition at Bengal Foundation Gallery , Dhaka
Her works have found a niche in over a dozen institutional collections and numerous private ones in India and abroad. Noteworthy are Tashkent State Museum; Uzbek Friendship Society; Scindia (erstwhile Indian Princely State) Palace, Gwalior; Ford Foundation New Delhi; Consulate of Netherlands, Kolkata; Williamsburg Museum, New York; and Vermont Studio Center, Johnson,Berlin, Frankfurt, Vilnius, Nida, Klaipeda, Salantai, Kaunas, Palanga, Florence, Rome, Vienna, Japan, Korea, Montreal, Phillipines, Dhaka.
