About Caren Lorber
Assembling Life As Art
I believe art can be seen everywhere, just waiting to be discovered within the simplest of forms and materials from our everyday life. As a medium, Assemblage allows me unlimited freedom to explore & create, for there is no shortage of things in our culture which can be used to make my art. In this creative process, it is the collecting and orchestrating of relationships between shapes and textures that excites me. When selecting these unrelated pieces, I am given the opportunity of finding a new purpose and place for them in the world. A transformation occurs when utilitarian becomes aesthetic, and people and parodies emerge as if reborn. As an artist, my desire is to share my playful spirit with you and that my work provides a joyful experience of remembrance and discovery.
After spending 25 years in broadcast advertising with CBS and NBC, Caren is now dedicating herself to living her life-long passion as a full-time artist creating art. Her whimsical/spunky assemblages have been featured at several solo shows including the Triton Hotel and has been exhibited in galleries throughout the Bay area. In 2002, she was chosen by Artspan to participate as an Artist in Residence at the Legion of Honor, de Young Art Museum in San Francisco. Caren is an active member in several not for profit organizations, is a Los Angeles native, a graduate of USC and a resident of San Francisco.
My art is a unique and highly personal form of story-telling utilizing childhood treasures, precious heirlooms and everyday objects to create a whimsical, multi-dimensional montage celebrating each individual life experience. Each assemblage tells a story about people, their lives and their legacies. I hope that my work will bring my viewers a joyful experience of celebration and remembrance and the opportunity to discover more art in their everyday lives.
