At the age of 16 I took a summer college art class where I painted my first oil painting and suddenly a door in heaven opened up to me. In 1970 I launched off to study Fine Arts at Kansas State University and was introduced to all types of media and design - pottery, printmaking, watercolor, pen & ink, drawing, charcoal and much more. Yet through the years oil painting has been my mainstay.
Amazingly it was not art that allured me, but the love of God. After three years of Fine Arts I changed my major to Biblical Studies and graduated to the ministry. For many years, I was a Missionary Evangelist, traveling throughout North America, Africa, the Philippines and Russia. I painted only when I could squeeze in some free time which was not often. For seven years I was the pastor of a Church in the Great Plains of America. Now it seems I have entered another stage of life. I am at home taking care of my aging mother and finally have the time to paint which is what I originally set out to do at age 18.
Even though I have artwork scattered across the United States with friends and coworkers who have been the glad recipients of my free paintings, I have only recently decided to sell. Presently, I am working on a 36 inch by 48 inch piece that I have been commissioned to paint of a couple and their dog at the beach. Quite simply, I paint because I love it.
