Biography | |
Diane L. Wilson was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and has worked as a professional artist and photographer for more than 25 years. Despite moving to the quieter environment offered by historic Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Diane's vision actually has evolved in bolder and more dynamic directions.
As she explains, " Traditional artwork on the flat canvass has been devalued by the wealth of cheap knockoffs available from any number of big-box stores. I have chosen a different path with my three-dimensional mixed-media pieces. "
Diane has taken her experience in traditional media such as oils and photography, and combined it with techniques she developed more than a dozen years ago while working as an artist in eastern Virginia. At that time, Diane was painting artwork on furniture and needed a way to seal her paintings to protect them in both indoor and outdoor settings. She discovered a form of epoxy that not only protected her finished work, but also enhanced it.
Only recently has she begun to incorporate the technique in her three-dimensional mixed-media work with striking results.
Diane is a graduate of the acclaimed Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Her pieces have been displayed in galleries from eastern Virginia to Missouri, and can be found in private collections throughout the U.S.
In addition to her work as an artist, Diane owns and operates the Center for the Arts in Ste. Genevieve. She lives in the historic French settlement an hour south of St. Louis with her husband and two children. |
