Biography | |
Yes, the artwork's a little nuts. I don't know exactly how I do it, I just know that I have to. I've been formally trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and have my Master Gardener's Certification from the University of Hawaii. I've lived in Florida, Kentucky, Chicago, Hilo, Honolulu and currently reside in Kansas City, Missouri.
This artwork is a culmination of a lifetime of still-life and portrait drawing, and obsessive-compulsive thinking. Most of my recent work is made with Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph technical pens in .13, .18 and .25 nib sizes with India ink on hot-press or cold-press illustration board. I use Prismacolor and Derwent colored pencils for the color work. The line pieces take between 25-120 hours each. The pointillism pieces take between 160-300 hours each. For source material, I use my own photographs or photos from seed catalogs and gardening magazines.
My artwork has been published in the Kansas City Star and several Hawai'i newspapers. I have produced greeting cards and children's book illustrations, published logo work and cartooning. |
