Biography
"Before starting a sculpture, I already have a name for the piece and a good idea of what it will look like. I do not make preliminary modeling or sketches. My sculpture remains in the thought process until it has been clearly defined. At the proper time, and no sooner, I very quickly begin modeling the design elements that I've been processing for weeks. Because I've done no preliminary artwork related to this sculpture, the results are fresh and spontaneous. To keep me focused on my objective, I write the name of the piece on my work surface."

Frank received his formal art training in graphic art and design at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, studying under Bernie Hogarth, one of the region's most active contemporary artists. Frank's diverse artistic career has taken him from an illustration artist for the aerospace industry (he worked on images of the original space shuttle) to a designer for the toy industry. Although Frank has studied a variety of artistic mediums, he has been most inspired by three dimensional art and the work of the sculptors Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore and primitive artists. After working for many years as a commercial designer in New York City, he relocated to Vermont to pursue a career in 3 dimensional art.

Frank begins the sculpture process by modeling his equestrian and human forms in wax or oil based clay. He then makes his final casings in bronze as limited editions, using an age old method referred to as "lost wax "Although the final sculpture is the result of several technically challenging steps, Franks ultimate goal is to create pieces that are straightforward, immediate and unselfconscious, as in the primitive art he so identifies with.

Frank is an associate member of the National Sculpture Society NYC, a juried member of the Copley Society of Art Boston, and a past board director with the Northern Vermont Art Association. His sculpture has been purchased by the Lands End Corporate collection and his work has been exhibited at equestrian events in Jacksonville Florida and Saratoga Springs, New York.
