Biography | |
Gina was born in New Orleans, the granddaughter of the founder of Delta Airlines. Born into an artistic family, her mother is a noted concert pianist, and her father a well-known Los Angeles architect and photographer; Gina began her creative endeavors at a very young age.She attended the University of Southern California, eventually traveling to Europe to continue to refine her technique, studying at Lecole Julien, in Paris, and under noted abstract expressionist, Alexander Kubaiski. Upon returning to the U.S. she completed her BFA and began work in Los Angeles as a commercial artist for CBS Studios, and A&M Records, and fashion illustrator for such clients as Liz Claiborne, and Etienne Eigner, among others. European culture, and memories of the Mardi Gras carnivals she attended as a child left a profound influence on her style. She has exhibited in galleries across the west coast and the midwest including Gallerie Kubaiski, and Phyllis Morris Gallery in L.A. as well as Reflections Gallery in San Juan Capistrano, and soloxhibitions at the Omaha Center For Contemporary Art in 2001 and 2002, and Robert Spencer Gallerie, London, UK. Gina's paintings reflect the sensual richness of her native New Orleans. The images are visually captivating, and possess exquisite detail. Her subjects are portrayed as aware and direct. They make eye contact, as if to challenge the viewer to engage in dialogue, at the same time inviting, yet impenetrable. Sometimes they are provocative, at times whimsical, always changing, as it is the persistent desire to evolve that defines her style. Gina's works are included in numerous celebrity and private collections.
