Jan Scherman was born in South Africa where he lived until 1997 when he moved to Australia.

His love for creating beautiful things as well as a keen eye for detail made him architecturallydesign several of his family properties in South Africa and Australia. His passion was making and creating master furniture pieces out of solid wood. He designed and handmade renowned furniture collections in the Louis style emphasizing the richness in decorative techniques. Among the most sought-after pieces of furniture are his table collections. He still creates custom furniture pieces for select customers.

In 1994 his passion for creating 'artwork' out of wood was expanded to marquetry. His marquetry pieces go beyond the traditional with an exquisite artistry touch found in works of only a selected few artists. He blends many wonderful species of wood in different colors, patterns and grains and says it is so satisfying to see the different colors and textures/patterns come together in a single piece of unique artwork.

His belief is that every art piece has a story to tell. The collective wish from his fan club and followers are that he will be telling many more stories.
