Biography
Jean-Pierre de Rothschild

Native French-European and educated at British universities in both economics and
astrophysics, Jean-Pierre was originally an international banker operating in the
Pacific Rim and Europe. Jean-Pierre learned by studying the European Masters, and
today draws from diverse international influences and inspirations to create vibrant
surreal-abstract and impressionistic subjects, helping to create a strong "optimistic
and uplifting" mood.

As a rising star on the contemporary art scene, Jean-Pierre devides his time between
the Studios in San Francisco Bay Area and France where he has become popular
among "nouveau monde contemporary" thinkers, with a distinctive style that evokes
forward movement, bold lines, and an explosion of vibrant colours that is affirming and
life awakening!
A keen observer notices dramatic palette knife technique with heavy paints producing
incredible boldness and texture of unusual intensity. The palette strokes make
surfaces dance with light while bright colours project delicate nuances.
Jean-Pierre’s paintings require the active participation of the viewer, and allow many points of entry to do so. Some are large, at a
human scale, inviting complete immersion. As the eye wanders through these works, dense with abstract and representational
imagery, it picks out different segments to explore. One experiences multiple narratives, simultaneous occurrences in the manner of
a natural symphony or a crowd scene.Jean-Pierre is interested in the physics and understanding of space--natural, architectural,
and theoretical. Jean-Pierre writes that he can 'visualize and materialize' at the same time, pointing to these various planes. His
brushwork and palette knives change throughout each painting to create imagery on these different levels. Broad, sweeping
gestures provide motion and abstractions that may inspire the thought of an emotion, rhythm, or storm. Smaller, more controlled
strokes create patterns and shapes that are recognizable, such as body parts or abstract flowers. Jean-Pierre’s bold colors
thematically unify the variety of line and image with in each painting, while setting a tone for their overall perception. Jean-Pierre
himself is evident in the physicality of painting. His gestures are left open for interpretation and interaction on physical and cerebral
levels.
