Biography | |
John David Phillips was born in southern New Mexico and having grown up in the American southwest. California, Australia, Texas, Indonesia, and Colorado, he acquired a rich and varied
reservoir of visual experiences. Considered to be a representational painter and tonalist with impressionistic influence, Mr. Phillips paints both en plein aire and in his studio. His goal as an artist is to communicate: to share the moods of nature with those who view his work.
The artist lives in the foothills of Colorado. His connection to New England is through his wife Fran, who is a native of Newburyport, Massachusetts. Making frequent trips to visit family and friends, Mr. Phillips is naturally drawn to the wonderful landscape of the New England seacoast and feels, as many artists do, obliged to paint it.
Mr. Phillips work may be found in the permanent collection of the Denver Art Museum, and the Colorado State Capitol Building recently acquired eight of his paintings. His work was showcased in several exhibits of Oil Painters of America, of which he is a member, and he won an Award of Excellence in 2004. His paintings were featured in Southwest Art Magazines October 2002 Landscape Collections across the West and its December 1999 New Directions in Realism articles. In addition he has been featured in Art Talk Magazine and in Denvers Mile High Magazine.Mr. Phillips work may be found in galleries throughout the West and Midwest. |
