Biography | |
John Bageris.John Bageris was born in Fremont, Ohio in 1924. He enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago where he received his BFA and MFA in 1951. In 1953-54 he completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Munich, Germany and by 1958 he was teaching at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His paintings are described as abstract and impressionist in style. His paintings are full of imagination, energy and fluid colors. His work was exhibited at Roko Gallery, Osborne, MOMA, Whitney, Art Institute of Chicago and the Smithsonian from 1957-72. In 1972 Bageris moved to the Boston area to teach at the Institute of Boston and DeCordova Museum. His works are currently held in the permanent collections of Museum of Modern Art in New York, Detroit Institute of Art, Brooklyn Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is one the most prolific Abstract Expressionist painters of the 20th century. The work of John Bageris is highly regarded and collected.
