Biography | |
With a palette as muted as twilight in the tropics, the art of John Kelly graced the menu covers at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki in the early 1950's. His favorite model, Marion, can be recognized in many of these menu covers, which themselves have become highly collectible items from an era when the spirit and romance of Hawaii readily anchored itself in the heart of the visitor with the docking of each luxury liner.
Warm reds and rich sepias do justice to an alluring people and lush tropical settings that continue to enthrall us today, much as they did those who traveled by steamship. Time has favored Kelly kindly with his own place in history as one of the early chroniclers of Hawaii and its people, and we're proud to offer our excellent reproductions of his work to you. |
