Biography | |
Most of these paintings have been divided in location between the upstate region of New York and the Sun Coast of Florida. There are some exceptions, such as the paintings of Emily Dickinsons house. I prefer to work with images or scenes that have a sense of place and time versus the abstract. In every landscape, urban or rural, I believe there is an other-worldly or spiritual presence there that can not be described or interpreted in ordinary language, but is there to be captured with the alternative language of color, shape, and value. I think this is what drives many artists to create works of art, to express the spirit of what they see in the natural. My formal background includes a commercial art program at the Lewis A. Wilson Technological School, college classes in art, as well as workshops. I have been painting for almost twenty years now and have been most recently inspired by a trip to Romania, where I had the privilege of being the guest of a good friend of mine and her Eastern Orthodox heiromonk Father. They took me on a grand tour of the country and into many of the spectacular monasteries in Transylvania and the Carpathian Mountains. I have lots of material to work with and hope to come out with a series on rural Romania and the monasteries. Hope you enjoy whats here. |
