I feel so fortunate to witness ordinary scenes made extraordinary by light and atmosphere... and then to set out to capture the spirit of my experience in my work. It is my life’s ambition to convey more than just the visual through my work, but to awaken the other senses as well...to rekindle and experience over and over again the smell of the salt air, the feel of warm sand grains slipping through my toes, the sound of reeds rustling in the wind. I want you to feel as I have felt; the motion of drifting clouds, first light creeping over the land, sparkles on the sea - serenity and contentment."
J.C. Airoldi attended Massachusetts College of Art and Otis Institute of Art (Parson School of Design) in Los Angeles, where she studied illustration and design. She led a successful career creating computer graphics and animations for several of the nation‘s leading computer game companies. For nearly ten years, she created storyboards, background art, character portraits and special effects animation, contributing to over 15 published titles.
Airoldi left her career in illustration to pursue her art full-time in 2002. Primarily self-taught, Airoldi‘s skills as a successful illustrator and designer contribute to her painting process. Balance, scale, color, harmony, and texture are the tools of both the painter and the designer.
For J.C. painting is synonymous with adventure and time well spent. She feels that her paintings are the
result of "taking the time" to experience the wonders she finds everywhere in nature. She strives to achieve the mood of a moment or a glimpse into something special.
A juried member of New Hampshire Art Association and Sharon Arts Center, J.C. was also elected in 2012 into the prestigious Guild of Boston Artists. She is active in several local art associations and artists groups, including North Shore Association and Rockjport Art Association, and frequently shows her work in juried local and regional shows.
She won ‘Best in Show‘ at the Newburyport Art Associations 2005 Winter II juried show and also an award for General Excellence in Painting for her pastels in the Newburyport Art Associations 2005 Winter I juried show.
An active participant in “The Newburyport Ten" Plein Air Group, it is common to find J.C. painting under both clear or cloud filled skies along coastal communities north of Boston.
A highly sought after instructor, J.C. offers plein air workshops in the Northeast and the Southwest and teaches ongoing classes in both oil and pastel. She shares her home and studio with her husband Jim, their two children and two crazy kitties in Hampstead, NH.
