Kathern Welsh,a prolific artist, has exhibited in one-woman shows, juried fine art shows, art festivals, museums and through Art in Public Places programs in Ohio and Florida. She has also sold work over the Internet and is a winner of several awards. She is also a published author, poet and graphic designer.
Prior to becoming disabled in 2002, Mrs. Welsh worked as a graphic artist, illustrator, and writer. Val-Pak, Kinko's, and World Harvest Breakthrough Ministries are some of the companies she has worked for. Since 2003, she has been showing paintings more and devoting as much time as possible to creating new oil paintings.
She has done numerous works by commission, including portraits, pets, scenery, seascapes, homes and special subjects as requested.
Kathern's works are being presented as a "One Woman Show" at the Vero Beach, FL, Community Center through October and November, 2006.
RAINBOW TORNADOES, a 24x24" gallery wrapped painting, has just been chosen for the Juried Show,Treasure Coast Competitive frp, January 12 to April 13 at the Indian River County Courthouse on 1600 Ave. Stop in and have a look!

Latest happenings: Welsh's painting, "Another Bad Hair Day" was accepted into the juried show presnted by the Cultural Council of Indian River County, "Tropical Images." It was on display for three months, starting July 28th.
The Uncommon Gallery in Pompano Beach presented a collection of Kathern's works during the month of August. People enjoyed meeting the artist and enjoyed an evening of fun on Gallery Night, August 11, from 6 to 11 PM. The gallery address is: 3159 E. Atlantic Blvd, Pompano Beach, Florida. Four of her religious works were chosen for the juried online art show, the Judeo-Christian VIII Show, and was featured through the month of April 2006 on the Upstream People Gallery site:

In February, 2006, she completed a 28x22 painting of a pelican, titled, PELICAN PRINCE, which was used on T-shirts and postcards for the Pelican Island Wildlife Festival in Sebastian, FL on March 11, 2006.
Besides much self study, she has taken courses at Columbus School of Art and Design in Columbus, OH, and International Correspondance Schools, Scranton, PA. She has also studied the techniques of Bob Ross and One Touch Painting.
A Member of Sebastian River Art Club and Vero Beach Art Club, she also volunteers with some local organizations.

Kathern moved to Florida with her husband, Sonny, on New Year's Eve, 1999, from Columbus, OH. She has two children, and 9 grandchildren, as well as 3 stepchildren and 3 step-grandchildren.
A prolific artist, her work is colorful and detailed and most have been done in the realistic style. Since September 2006, abstracts have captured her creative instinct, as you can see by her newly submitted abstract paintings. |
