Kostia Tsechiev was born in 1957 in the North of Russia. Kostia dreamt to be sailor like his father. However, he always drew and he decided to finish an art school just for himself. When his father moved to Sevastopol, Ukraine, Kostia worked as a sailor on a small ship. But his child's dream to create something that can make people think or laugh was stronger.
He started to work with ceramic figurines, each one with its own story. They were funny and they were popular.
But it was not enough for the artist. He wanted to create something more stable than the fragile ceramics. What could be better than bronze, which save our memories for centuries. The new material allowed him to create very recently a mix of technical inventions and funny situations, which we can find in our daily lives. Yet his ideas are fresh, simple and original.
Kostia was presented first prize for best emerging sculpture in Ukraine in 2006. |
