Biography | |
The youngest of the three highly acclaimed sculpting 'giants', along with older brothers, the late Bernard and the late John. All three boys were deeply influenced by their mother Amai Takawira. Lazarus initially worked as a policeman but was encouraged by Bernard, to turn to stone. For him, the women he characteristically sculpts represent the vital source of all life, beauty and joy and whose resilient spirits somehow always remain gentle and calm. His work is held in public collections around the world including the Musee Rodin in Paris, The World Bank in New York, and The Africa Museum in Belgium. At the Zimbabwe Heritage Exhibition during the Commonwealth Games in 1990, he was presented to the Queen and Prince Charles has collected his work. |
