| Biography | |
Lee Rowan is native of Wellesley, Massachusetts, who has been living and painting on the North Shore for more than twenty years. Her training as an artist began at Skidmore College, where she
received a B.S. degree in Art. Since then she has continued her study at various institutions like the National Institute of Textiles and the DeCordova Museum School. She also has attended numerous workshops and seminars given by prominent artist like Betty Lou Schlem, David Dunlop, and George Augusta. Her most influential teacher and mentor, however, is Robert Scott Jackson, with whom she has been studying for many years.
Beginning her work as an artist in watercolors, she switched to pastels when she began to study with Mr. Jackson. The driving force was the strong color that could be achieved in pastels. Her subject matter varies but there are several reoccurring themes to be found in Ms. Rowans work. The familiarity of the landscape of the North Shore, where she lives, and Maine, where she vacations, compel her to paint them. Birds nests are a
favorite subject because she loves the intimacy of them. Her sense of humor may be found in the paintings of chickens and roosters.
Ms. Rowans work has been exhibited and sold in several New England galleries as well as in the West. She has been invited to show in many juried shows, and her work may be found in the
permanent collections of the Lancaster Museum of Art (Pennsylvania) and the Institution for Savings in Newburyport, Massachusetts. |
