Biography | |
Marilyn Swift is a Connecticut native who has made her home on the North Shore of Massachusetts. The beauty of Cape Ann and Gloucester have captivated her from the time she first visited the area in 1968.
The artist's education includes a BA degree in Art from the College of New Rochelle, NY, and study at the De Cordova Museum School, Massachusetts College of Art and the Boston Museum School. She also has studied with several well known artists including Don Stone, Ernest Thorne Thompson, Joseph L. C. Santoro, Ted Goerschner, Tom Nicholas, and John Yardley. She has taught workshops and classes in New England and other areas of the country.
Marilyn paints in New England as well as the places she travels, including Italy, France, England, and Monhegan Island, Maine. She is primarily a plein aire painter, and her preferred medium is watercolor.
Ms. Swift's works have won many awards, including ones at The New England Watercolor Society, the Rockport Art Association, Academic Artists, North Shore Arts Association, and the Salmagundi Club. Her work has been included in several books, including The Best of Watercolor, Volume 3; Watercolor Expressions; and Monhegan, The Artists Island.
The artist's professional memberships include New England Watercolor Society, The Copley Society of Art with the distinction of Copley Artist, Rockport Art Association, Academic Artists of Springfield, Hudson Valley Artist Association, The Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society and American Artists Professional League. |
