Biography | |
Nadia Y. Kasko
I still remember the gray, overcast day when I moved from the Ukraine to the spectacular Pacific Northwest. Since then, I have been amazed and inspired by Nature's wonder. Whether hiking through endless greenery, gazing over the restless ocean or watching each unique sunset, I am continually blessed by the rich texture of Washington life. Whether I am painting figures or landscapes, I attempt to convey the inner strength and beauty of each.
I graduated from the University of Washington's Art Program. My great passion is snowboarding and any day that "starts with powder and ends with paint" is a really, really good day.
Artist Statement
When I study the work of Old Masters, I am continually impressed with the extreme beauty achieved by simplifying objects to their most basic of geometric shapes.
Paul Cézanne has been one of my greatest inspirations. His masterful use of adventurous color, simplified forms and exploratory brushstrokes combine to offer the viewer a complex visual experienceâ¦a complexity I continually strive to understand.
As I view the world around me, I search for unique angles and interpretations. Each uniqueness triggers my imagination which I attempt to express on canvas. Whether the attraction is a warmth of color or an intense light or shadow, such extraordinary beauty inspires me back into my studio.
Some of my artistic goals are to express volume, space and flow of light. This is achieved by varying color intensity, controlling edges and interplaying warm with cool colors. I am amazed how bold strokes can convey strength, even in the most delicate of objects. While I sometimes pre-conceive how the finished piece will look, other times I will allow the painting to evolve into an end result. Either way, when I am finished, I ask myself "how can I make it more powerful?" |
