Artist Statement:
In my 28 years of being an artist, I have always wanted the same thing. I want to leave behind images that make a difference in people's lives. That sounds arrogant, but I know that people are affected by their surroundings. My work occupies permanent spaces on people's walls; therefore my work has an effect on their day-to-day emotions. Hopefully it will bring a smile!
My technique is somewhat unique. I paint large canvases. First I use a special watercolor canvas and paint watercolor, then I spray fixative, then touch up and texture with acrylic. Finally a high gloss is painted on. I do lots of rain scenes, so I make the gloss look like rain by using directional splatter. I try creating depth by painting the watercolor for objects far away, then thicker texture using acrylic for objects close up.
Thanks
Richard Russell
