Biography | |
Painting is my passion, I love color and I am self taught. I create abstract acrylic based paintings and live in Phoenix, Arizona. My objective is to bring energy to those that view and purchase my work.
I am one of eleven children born to a close knit Hispanic family, I began my life as an artist with my senses immersed in the loving whirlwind of my dynamic "familia". My earliest memories involve the daily rituals of a colorful group of loving people: Faith, writing, constant travel, art and music. My mother, "Golla", crafted tortillas by hand for our large family, and also raised a variety of herbs to create home remedies for family and friends. She was always creating, whether in the kitchen, at her sewing machine or hand crafts. My father, Andres, wrote extensively and as an artist his religious poems, songs and prayers have been published.
It was in high school, moving from schools in the state of Washington to Merrillville, Indiana, that I discovered my constantly uprooted heart could be touched by art. I began to seriously study drawing and poetry while I was working as a model in Chicago, Illinois, and my study and journals continue to shape my work. I began producing large abstract murals on walls and ceilings that dressed my home and that of friends. A move to Boston, Massachusetts, took me to the renowned cultural enclave of the east coast, and it was there that my artistic life began to flourish. I opened my first business, Ruby Heart Jewelry upon encouragement from friends and artists, and I began to show my handcrafted beaded jewelry in a number of art fairs throughout New England. It was during this period that I traveled to Europe and visited a number of influential museums and galleries in London, Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome, Athens and Madrid.
In 2001, I returned full-circle to my original love for drawing and painting, and I have turned my magical eye to the canvas, working primarily with acrylic-based paints. My abstract paintings are in private collections. I cite my many mystical influences of the region, including the powerful work of Kahlo, Monet and Van Gough as inspiration for my continued creative ascent. I am a regular contributor to Poetry.com and I am currently the Artist in Residence at Most Holy Trinity School. I truly enjoy engaging children in art.
I am excited about sharing my work with others and I hope that the public enjoys each piece that I produce. |
