| Biography | |
Susan Murray Stokes was born in England and raised in India and Sri Lanka. She has had the opportunity to study her art all over the world, including London, India, Paris and New York. Her travels have broadened her view of the world and have influenced her art work accordingly.
Although she has traveled the world, Susan's love for the island of Nantucket shines through in her paintings. The heightened color palette in her work reflects the light filled atmosphere of the island and the obvious joy she receives from her time spent there. Susan is a masterful portrait painter as well. When she is not absorbing the seaside of Nantucket she prefers to paint portraits, several of which can be seen at Harvard and Northeastern Universities.
Susan has been honored with many prestigious awards such as: the Frank Benson award from the Guild of Boston Artists, the Grumbacher award and the J.Singleton Copley award from the Copley Society. She is a member of the the Guild of Boston Artists and the Copley Society of Boston where she qualified as a Copley Master.
