Welcome! You are looking at a beautiful Original oil pianting on wood panel by Virginia Norris Adolph. This painting was purchased from an estate auction and is in excellent condition. It is signed Virginia Norris Adolph on the front right lower corner. It is again signed on the back (Virginia Adolph)..also written in cursive writing...is the title "Peonies and Iris".....and dated 1946....as shown in pictures
Virginia Adolph is an American Painter...born in 1880..in Indiana. A painter in Jamaica, NY....who was active in the early part of the 20th Century. She is best known for her still life and landscape paintings
She studied at the London School of Art as well as Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
Virginia Norris Adolph is a listed artist...MUSEUM REFERENCE - Sheldon Swope Art Museum -Terre Haute,IN.

Measures approximately 36"H x 29 3/4"W (framed). The painting fits loosely in the frame...but can easily be repaired. It looks like someone tried to remove the painting from the frame at some time. Some of the metal clips that hold the painting in place are missing so the painting slides inside the frame. This could easily be fixed by a professional framer. The painting and frame themselves are in very good condition.
I have emailed photos of this painting to Nathan Richie (Curator of Collections) at the Sheldon Swope Art Museum and he recommends repairing the frame as it may be original to the pc....and worth saving.
