Biography
Dag was born on April 1st of 1989 (April fools day), in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia . Being the first born, his family took a great care in raising him up and providing his wants and needs as wonderful parents would do. With a sister and twin brothers, home was really where the heart was. Dag was always fascinated by my surrounding environment as he gazed at nature and how sophisticated it was. He would look at people and things and observe the vast beauty of such creations. Dag's observation triggered something inside him and offered him a release to which he would give something back; something meaningful, simple yet profound. Art, as he had realized later, was what Dag was born to do in this short life that he was given. Nonetheless it was tough dwelling in a coungry and an environment that scarcely recognized and cared about art or any motive of self expression. There were no means of appreciation or encouragement towards the arts in general hence, having no more than one college that comprised an art field for the few. Even though, there was basically no one that encouraged him to do it other than his family, Dag envisioned that one day he would be able to live for what he loved and love the way he lived and kept pressing on.

Miraculously, the lot fell on the family to come to the U.S. for free using a Diversity Visa offered as a lottery. This great news boosted up his faith in his God and Dag's talent accompanying a brighter future. As the family was preparing to leave the country with excitement something tragic happened to him. At age 13 he was struck with Hepatitis A and was severely ill for a month. After recovering from that, within a weeks’ time Dag was diagnosed with Malaria and following his recovery from it, he was diagnosed with a tumor on his right jaw. It was a horrific experience for Dag and his family, in the sense that there was great news of going to a better place to live accompanied with a really dreadful one of having to deal with three major diseases consecutively resulting a near death situation. Once the doctors figured out that they needed to do a major operation that would require a higher standard accommodation, they suggested that he should go ahead and have it carried out in the U.S.

“Coming to America ” wasn’t as exciting as the movie and as he thought it would be, not being aware of where his fate lied. After he came, they went about knocking on county and city doors for help in covering the enormously high medical costs not to mention to a family that had just arrived from a third world country. People always told Dag that he was lucky and he started believing that when the county agreed to cover all the cost without having them fill out the outrageously big stack of paperwork as the manager accepted their request after hearing my story, with tears rolling down her face. A total of 2 months of check ups before and after the surgery that took 12 hours, Dag recovered from this one walking out debt free of a bill that came out to be $300,000.

In history most people with great visions that brought change in this world once or more in their lives faced horrible and near death situations. But they carried out their goals and fulfilled their visions. Dag too had to go through a truly narrow bridge in the end waving his white flag of peace and victory. So even after that experience of hardship nothing affected his focus and drive, rather it built him up and strengthened his plans of taking his art to a higher and greater level. As he progressed, he started working with different Medias and techniques to express his talents in art winning different honor awards and gaining exposure.

"My life is art and art is my life and I’m willing to give it my all and make it happen.", says Dag with a huge smile on his face.
