| Biography | |
James trained as a graphic artist and has been a commercial designer for the past 20 years. Entirely self-taught, many of his compositions reflect this background with a structured, controlled framework underlying the subject matter in a lot of his work, albeit with a freedom of expression not generally available to the commercial designer.
In his latest collection of work James explores abstract variations on the theme of nature. Whatever he paints, he attempts to extract the essential elements and convey the mood and emotion of the moment, with the many personalities of the Irish climate being a constant inspiration.
His prefered media are acrylic and oils on board or canvas. Mixed media is also something he experiments with - works on paper, board or newsprint with the addition of plaster, sand etc to portray texture.
James happily combines the roles of painter and graphic designer. He exhibits occasionally in Ireland and the UK as well as undertaking private and commercial commissions. |
