Biography | |
Magda Vacariu started studying painting at a very early age, and later on she studied at Adelaide Central School of Art under the direction of Christopher Orchard. She exhibits her work regularly and her paintings are held in numerous private collections in Australia and Europe. Having been born in Romania and spent most of her formative years there, Magdas work reflects something of East European culture and spirituality. Her paintings are exploring the essence of soul and love and regaining spirituality. Her figures depict the personal struggle of the individual to understand life and his own world through a continuos search for meaning, purpose and authenticity. Magdas sources and inspirations include Brancusi, Franz Kafka, Pina Bausch and Andrei Tarkovsky.
The single unifying factor and focus in Magdas work has been portraiture. Children appear in most of her paintings. Their extraordinary spontaneity and joy of life make them an enticing subject. One of Magdas projects is to document them as they grow. |
