Biography | |
Ronalee Crocker grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts within an artistic family. She was continually encouraged to paint by her grandfather and her brother, both of whom also enjoyed painting and drawing. My grandfather, an illustrator by trade, was also a skilled painter in oil and watercolor. Under his guidance, my brother and I gained confidence in our artistic ability at an early age. Ronalee attended Emmanuel College in Boston and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts. She continued her education at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She later worked for a number of years as a graphic artist, but unsatisfied with this use of her talent, she left her job and devoted her time to painting. Through the years, Ronalee has painted and studied with many teachers in New England. While studying under Robert Scott Jackson, a student of R.H. Ives Gammell and Robert Douglas Hunter, Ronalee began to understand the concepts of shape, value, and color on a new level. Jackson taught me the use of a limited palette and impressionistic color and instilled in me his knowledge and technique, while guiding me in my own direction and style. Ronalees interest lies within the traditional Boston School of Painting. She paints luminous still-lifes with a strong sense of composition and a rich, sensuous use of color. Using a limited palette, her goal is to inspire the viewer with her personal true-to-life version of nature in its most beautiful form. Her compositions of fruit and vegetables dare the viewer to reach out and touch the textured rind of a lemon, smell the air for a hint of orange, and taste the summer sweetness of the perfectly painted watermelon. Ronalee has the distinction of having membership in both The Copley Society in Boston and The American Artist Professional League in New York. She is also a member of the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester and the Andover Artists Association, both located in Massachusetts. Among her many accolades, Ronalee has recently been presented with the Allied Artists of America Award at the 2002 74th Grand National Exhibition of the American Artist Professional League, at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. |
