Biography | |
Salina Ramsay is a well known and popular American artist specializing in portraiture and equine art. Her works have been collected by such notables as actor William Shatner and Helen B. Penny Chenery, former owner of Secretariat.
Ms. Ramsays art has been featured in publications such as Bloodhorse magazine, Keeneland magazine and American Saddlebred magazine. She has had pieces auctioned by Sothebys and her art can be found at leading galleries such as Frost and Reed of London, the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Keeneland Race Course Gift Shop, and the Kentucky Horse Park Gift Shop. Salina is among a select group of artists to have works officially licensed by Keeneland, and her drawing and painting classes are popular with all levels of student artists in the Lexington area.
Persons interested in commissioning works by Salina Ramsay will find her easy to work with. Known for her ability to capture likeness and motion, Ms. Ramsay enjoys creating human and animal portraiture employing a liberal use of paint and vivid, crisp color. When beginning a portrait, Ms. Ramsay starts by creating a series of photographic studies from which a final working sketch will be made. Usually a subject is rendered several times before work on the final painting is begun. Once the direction of the painting is clear, Ms. Ramsay prefers to correspond with the client by email. Upon completion of the sketch, she will send a JPEG file to the customer for approval. After final approval, a fifty-percent deposit is required to proceed with the work on the final painting. |
