Biography
The worst thing that can happen to any piece of art is that it exists but it isn't seen. The inspiration for much of my artwork comes from the artists whose painting decorated and illustrated medieval manuscript pages. Seeing the 'grotesqueries', the fantastic conglomerations of plants, people and animals (in practically every mix and match form) that they painted in miniature, set my imagination on fire and freed me to create my own freakish menagerie. I also draw from Gothic themes and have many paintings with wolves, bats and skulls. With the exception of a few of my pieces, I don't present my art with any preconceived ideas or labels. My art is what it is, and can be interpreted by the viewer as they see it. If my work catches the eye and causes any reaction, positive or negative, then I have accomplished what I set out to do. You looked, you stopped, you saw. I predominately use gouache (a medium that most closely represents period pigments), but I do dabble from time to time in acrylic and pen and ink.
