Biography

Cesar Carranza (Ambato - Ecuador, 1943) is a high exponent of Ecuadorian "neofigurativism". Attentive to art world, however, has insisted on the current Latin American identity problem subjects. This feature of his creation is the result not only of his personal interests but of the artistic trends that have prevailed in the centers where he studied, the School of Fine Arts of Quito and the famous School of San Carlos in Mexico City.

But Carranza is not an easel painter. Art critics (H. Rodriguez, R. Villacis, J. Pazos, A. Cotto ...) recognized in his work a very personal use of color and Andean poetic evocation of erotic motifs, slightly parodic, taken from the daily life of women and men in camps and towns, also of the Andes.

These values, apart from the novelty products are fruits of the slow maturation of genuine art and have been shown in galleries and museums of Ecuador (MS and Marsu Art of Quito, Green Apple and Gala in Guayaquil, Cuenca Larrazabal, museums of Quito, Cuenca Loja and the Central Bank of Ecuador) and have an impact on the cities where he has exhibited individually (Institute of Social Sciences, Moscow, Milan Casa Pino Raina, ANEA of Lima, OAS Hall of Buenos Aires ...) and collectively in Mexico , Havana, Managua, San Salvador, Houston, Miami, Washington, Santiago, Chile...

Carranza is in the book "100 Artists of Ecuador", graphic testimony of the important art gallery Diners Ecuador. In 1991, Genesis Publishing Quito, published a portfolio of his drawings.

Faces, landscapes, urban views, transmuted in unusual and powerful colors, are due to a lingering, tender and magical rapport with the people's culture. This is why Carranza's message reaches distant latitude observers and high lightens the wonderful way of being of Latin American inhabitants of the present and the future.
