Biography
Ralph Bledsoe is a native of Batesville, MS where he attended South Panola High School and Patton Lane. He is presently employed full time at Batesville Intermediate School in Batesville, MS. Even though his job takes a great deal of his time, he still manages to find spare time to what he lovesĀ—painting. One of his goals in life is to direct all of his attention to painting and solely support himself with his artistic talents.

"At an early age, I was drawn to sketching: the scenes from daily life, my teacher at the blackboard, the landscapes surrounding my hometown of Batesville. Soon I moved on to the median of watercolor and eventually to oils."

Bledsoe is a self-taught artist, with the exception of some additional background from art correspondence courses. He began painting at a very early age and has continued this livelihood for more than twenty-five years. He started with watercolor and later changed to oil painting. His works are painted intricately and are full of meticulous details regardless of the subject matter.

Bledsoe prefers realistic landscapes and country scenes to portraits, even though the latter is just as impressive. His themes, which range from river baptisms to Southern plantation, capture the feel of rural or political message. Probably his most acclaimable painting is a portrait he completed of Dr. Martin Luther King.

"From my first oil painting of an old barn on Curtis Road, I tried to capture the vitality of the North Mississippi land. Landscapes continue to be my favorite subjects from bales of cotton in a field to a country houseĀ—from a lonely road to horses in a pasture."

Bledsoe has received invitations to display his paintings in arts and crafts societies throughout the United States. He has also received several awards from various art and craft shows. He has had a one-man exhibition in the Northwest Art Gallery on the Senatobia, MS Community College campus and the Batesville Public Library. He continues to show his artworks in southern art galleries. Many are proud owners of some of his wonderful work.

Mr. Bledsoe has made a limited number of signed prints from some of his oil paintings and also has some prints that are open. He also paints singles by request.
