Description 
Each piece is hand-crafted. Small ceramic tiles are hand-cut one by one and worked on to attain the perfect finish. The glass we incorporate is also hand cut and then the edges are smoothed with a glass grinder.

Our own ceramic pieces (tesserae) which highlight the shapes and colors in the design, involve the most work and a complex process

Each piece is hand-shaped from the basic clay form. Then it is fired in our own wood-fired kiln for approximately 10 hours. After the bisk fire they are each painted with our own mix of raw materials (oxides, lead, silica etc). The tesserae then return to the kiln for another 10 hour firing experience. The result is always a surprise and full of mystery.

The fire dances around the clay, causing the glaze to react in unexpected ways. No two pieces can be the same simply because the fire is so dynamic, unlike electricity which generates a constant heat. Two tesserae lying beside one another in the fire may react differently with the same oxides simply because of a slight variation in temperature and the vigorous movement of the flame.

Our art form demands meticulous attention to detail, infinite patience and openness to unexpected movement. But most of all, our work expresses a deep devotion and love for the creative force and all that life throws at us.
