Biography
Michael Woodard is a self-taught marine artist who creates contemporary nautical scenes based on his own experience. He developed an interest in boats as a teenager through his active participation in a Sea Scout program in the San Francisco Bay area. Michael is a 1981 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. The artist served as a crew member aboard several U.S. flag merchant ships, including serving as the Assistant Engineer aboard the Space Shuttle booster recovery ship Liberty Star from 1982 to 1985. He is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists and the International Society of Marine Painters. He sells limited-edition prints of his paintings through his marine art business, named Mariner Graphics. More of his work can be viewed by visiting his web site at www.MarinerGraphix.com. He and his wife, Sally, are residents of Tallahassee, Florida.

Canvas used for oil painting that is typically made of linen or cotton, stretched very tightly and tacked onto a wooden frame. Linen is considered far superior to the heavy cotton for a canvas.
