Biography 
Gevorg Avagyan was born in 1922 in Gyumri town (Armenia), now lives and works in Yerevan.
He is an Armenian painter, one of very few representatives of Armenian artists old generation who still creates his oil painting.

The artist was graduated from Armenian Fine Arts College named after Terlemezian (1949), and then from Armenian Fine Arts Academy (1956) where he studied studio guided by outstanding Armenian artists Gabriel Giurjian.
The diploma work “Parcels from home” was created in socialistic realism style as a scene of Second World’s War, were he has passed as a soldier from the start to the final end (1941-1945)

Since 1971 Avagyan is the member of Artists Union of the USSR. Since then he is a constant participant of various Armenian and international art exhibitions.
Art works and monumental compositions by Gevorg Avagyan are kept in different national galleries, decorates national theatres, cultural centres and private collections in Armenia and abroad.

A big pleiade of famous Armenian artists were working close together with Avagayn. Among his nearest studio friends were talentive artists Arakel Arakelian (1929-1990), Mikael Giurjian (1935-1995), Hamlet Minasyan (1923-1995), Karlen Roukhikyan (1926-2004) and many others. Avagyan was well known amongst his friends as a master of portrait and beautiful realistic landscapes.

In spite of his age the author continues and develops traditional classic school of realistic painting sometimes coming to impressionism in genre of thematic painting, portrait, landscape and still-life. High professionalism and author’s artistic culture enables him to create pictures of different genres, from historical battle canvases and portraits to still-lives and landscapes which conduct the real breath of the time.
Among his recent interesting works were “Bacchus Women”, devoted to 2000 anniversary of Armenian theatre, “ The battle of Sardarapat”, “Davit Bek” “The battle of Avarayr” Portrait of Sos Sargsyan in the role of “Dzori Miro” and others.
An art movement founded in France in the last third of the 19th century. Impressionist artists sought to break up light into its component colors and render its ephemeral play on various objects. The artist's vision was intensely centered on light and the ways it transforms the visible world. This style of painting is characterized by short brush strokes of bright colors used to recreate visual impressions of the subject and to capture the light, climate and atmosphere of the subject at a specific moment in time. The chosen colors represent light which is broken down into its spectrum components and recombined by the eyes into another color when viewed at a distance (an optical mixture). The term was first used in 1874 by a journalist ridiculing a landscape by Monet called Impression - Sunrise.
