Biography | |
"My art does not start at the easel, rather, it evolves throughout my daily experiences with nature. I spend days in the forest with the sunrise and sunset, feeling the effect of nature's healing properties, and of course beauty works wonders with the heart."
A naturalist, and outdoorsman, he camps, hikes, and explores, to find his timeless compositions. It is this focus, this need to completely loose himself in the wilderness in order to paint, breathing in the air of dawn and dusk, that nurtures the inspiration he pours onto his canvases. He draws inspiration from his diverse journeys. In the last several years he has been to Greece, Germany, Poland, France, Russia, Italy, Canada and his plans are to exhibit and tour United States in 2007. His home and studio are in Italy, with another residence in Crete Island. In 2002, Michal Silski was chosen as Artist in Residence by the President of Greece. He devoted several months to doing what he does best, chronicling the region's ongoing love affair with light. Greece awarded Michal with an honorary permanent residency. During the Olympics in Athens, Greece Silski was one of the world artists selected to paint for Gold Medalists.
Influenced by the master works of renowned artists such as Rembrandt, Monet and Leonardo de Vinci; Silski mastered a new technique for his work: "I use pallet knife with a brush because combining texture that only the knife can create with applied brush transparent paint gives my work a greater feeling of aliveness with the images. The contrast between the two allows for an amazing visual effect." It is this style that has allowed Silski to win the hearts of collectors, world-wide. His work is displayed in finer homes in Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, England, Italy, Greece and Russia. One of his paintings was selected by John Paul II as a permanent exhibit at the Vatican Museum (registration #3027). As his work emerged in United States in 2006, serious collection of paintings was acquired by private collector and Silski was invited to join several national exhibitions and solo art events. Also few publishers have expressed an interest in reproducing his works. His sole agent and impressario Danielle Tarnowski is in charge of scheduling private exhibits, interviews and media appointments. When asked, Danielle says: " I love working with Michal, his sense of humor, his attitude, his knowledge and talent is beyond what one can imagine, with his intelligence and brightness he remind me of Leonardo De Vinci".
Silski began painting at early age. His parents surrounded him with ambiance of art and created a refined cultural atmosphere which set the stage for his development. Unfortunately at age 12 he lost both of his parents in the train accident. While in orphanage he won every art contest and was invited to attend Academy Of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. He graduated with honors and holds Masters of Fine Arts and PhD in Psychology. The list of solo and group exhibits is quite extensive and the number of awards is very impressive. |
