Jovan Arsenovic was born in 1945 in Zemun, Serbia, where he also grew up. He was admitted to the Belgrade Academy of the Arts, where he completed his professional training as a sculptor in 1970.
He is a most versatile artist, who not only sculpts, but also paints, carves and makes mosaics. He works with a great variety of materials, among which wood, stone and bronze.

In 1974 he had his first one-man exhibition in Belgrade. That same year he won the prize for sculpture in another exhibition named “Prostor”. This was also the time when he decided to go to Paris. Upon his arrival there he was introduced to the renowned French sculptor Coutel. In exchange for food and shelter, Jovan assisted Coutel for a while.
In May 1975 a friend invited him to come to the Netherlands. He settled in The Hague, where he started off professionally with an exhibition in the Tequila Art Gallery. This exhibition displayed a series of icons.
