Biography | |
Bennie Parker was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and raised in the Sweet Home area near Wrightsville. Bennie began his art career early at the age of 3 when his mother purchased him a Paint-by-Numbers set.
When his mother went to the store for groceries for him and his eight other siblings, Bennie would want drawing pencils.
Thereafter, beginning in elementary school, he won several art competitions including the nationally known Institutional Art Competition and Exhibition [for talented and creative art newcomers]. He eventually received an art scholarship but was unable to pursue an art career due to numerous personal hardships and setbacks.
Mr. Parker is entirely self-taught and notes that his artistic talent is "god-given" and it blesses him and others daily. He also says 'I love to draw. I find myself drawing everything that I can.' He specializes in drawing with charcoal, graphite, and colored pencils, but also has produced works with oil and acrylic paints.
Bennie has shown his works in various galleries and exhibitions throughout Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and in the Atlanta area. He is available for commissioned works, specializing in portraits, everyday scenes, and historical subjects. |
