Biography
My paintings are moody, mystic and spiritual. Influenced mainly by my love for the surviving force of nature, childhood fantasies and the respect for Traditions and Culture.
Abstract Painting
Another word for Abstract is “make believe or fantasy” something that is fast disappearing. Maybe that is why so many artists are rekindling their youth these days. I am!
Flower Paintings
I love to portray my flowers with mystic atmosphere almost as if they have something to say to us.
Some are little survivors during the winter’s chill and others that love to bask in the summer sun. There are those who love to shelter in the shades of light, while other plump themselves up to protect them from the harsh scorching sun. Nature has her seasons, whether it is producing a dominant colour each month or showing off the different species. Flowers are perfection itself, whether it is in the fields or a maintained environment they bring joy and peace to the soul.
Xhosa Paintings
Most of these paintings portray RURAL simple happy days, when morals ruled and Traditions and Culture were of the utmost importance. Hardships were mainly related to every day life and not even closely related to today’s standards. The historical beadwork and symbolic meaning found in this craft absolutely fascinates me.
To have met and personally presented Mr Nelson Mandela two of my paintings IN 2005 was an honour of which I will be eternally grateful, my thanks to Nosi and Madiba. I trust I have honoured a small part of the Xhosa history.
