First Name Margaret
Last Name Rodriduez
Country Barbados
Biography
Margaret was born in Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean, and as a child dreamed of becoming an architect and living in Barbados, her childhood holiday home.

She gained a Bachelor of Interior Design from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute in Canada and this intense course in Interior Architecture and Space Planning fulfilled her dream career.

In 1986 during one of her many holidays in Barbados, she decided to settle down there and embark on another new business venture, Nock Abouts, manufacturing hand dyed and hand painted garments. It was a success from inception and creating fabric designs soon took priority over interior design making her dream to live in Barbados a reality.

Following the birth of her son a few years later, Margaret closed the doors to Nock Abouts, spent a year raising funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, then opened The Pot Warehouse, importing clay pots from Trinidad.

During her schooling in Trinidad, Margaret won many prizes for her artistic talents. However her studies, business ventures and family responsibilities took priority over her art and it was not until she joined the Newcomers Art Group in 1994, mainly to socialize, did she resume painting, after a layoff of almost 11 years.

Not satisfied with the results of the dry brush watercolour techniques learnt at school, Margaret set about changing her style. After meeting Canadian artist, Margaret Roseman, her painting style took on a new direction. With discipline, experimenting and participating in many watercolour workshops she started to loosen up and now enjoys the medium with a bold, colourful confidence. Heidi Berger, another Canadian artist, has also been a source of great inspiration and encouragement, especially with the Wax Resist technique. Margaret paints still life, local flowers and landscapes. Her favourite subject however is the Bajan chattel houses because they are bright and colourful and each one has its own unique features.

Due to a hereditary, genetic eye disease, Margaret has lost most of her peripheral vision. Although this has restricted her mobility considerably, she still practises Interior Design, raises funds for the NICU, assists in her husbands advertising business, publishes the Barbados Pictorial Diary Collection, illustrates children's books and whenever time permits treats herself to playtime with her watercolours.
