| Biography | |
Artist From Hampton, VA â 29 years old. I admire different types of art â whether it be visual, music, writing or cinema. I am also a musician and like to incorporate both art and music when I get the chance. My favorite types of visual art are Surrealism and Expressionism. My favorite artists have been and are Yves Tanguy, Salvador Dali, Edvard Munch, Giorgio De Chirico, Alexis Rockman, Andy Warhol.
I started doing art when I learned to doodle, whether on my classâs notes or on my parentâs kitchen table. I took art as an elective in middle and high school, receiving various awards of recognition. During high school I was in a phase doing drawings or paintings of pipes and arranging them in various ways. One of these drawings got me a Best In Show at the high school Senior Exhibit. I also liked creating moody landscapes and what ever else came to mind (as is somewhat the case now). I then moved on to Mount Saint Maryâs University where I continued to study art. Here I received a Best In Show for another one of my pipe-drawings. I was also awarded the use of my own studio-space during my college senior year.
After graduation I soon landed a graphic design position (even though I had no major course training in graphic art) at a company called Fremont Die, which makes various college and professional sports novelty items. After working there for four years I have since moved on to Talley Anchor Sign Company, involved in preliminary layouts and shop drawings for various local signs for places such as restaurants and businesses, etc. In my spare time I produce mainly pen/ink and pencil drawings with some painting. I am currently working on an oil painting from a request of a friend I knew back in college. Right now I create abstract and expressionist type compositions which can involve surrealism. A fan of Surrealism, I am hinting an idea called âAbsurrealismâ (Abstraction + Surrealism). The basis of my current work is from my own mentality and emotion. My works can also represent the current state of the outside world, how I see it and how it could possibly be . . .
Recently I have included my art in some local shows and galleries and am currently a member of the Hampton Arts League of Virginia. I have been accepted into a couple recognized shows including the âHampton Bay Days Juried Exhibitionâ. With music being my other passion, I try best to keep a balance between both, integrating my music and art when I get the chance. |
