Biography
An artist is the product of his environment. His brush resonates in tune with the people, places, events and emotions that surround him. This is abundantly evident in the works of Kiran Moghe.

The artist spent much of his early life in Mumbai, India and the contradictions and contrasts of the city find their way onto his canvases. He is particularly moved by the determination of the marginalized to live with dignity, despite having the odds stacked heavily against them. In his painting, Pains of Antop Hill, the little house perched on a steep cliff shows the resilience of the people who live inside, as this area is prone to landslides.
The triumph of the human spirit is a recurring theme in his paintings.

His paintings also traverse his own individual journey; the tug of war between self-imposed solitude and societal acceptance.

In his later years, Kiran Moghe spent a great deal of time in rural Karnataka, India and his paintings of this period evoke an appreciation of the simple innocence of its inhabitants.

Uncorrupted by the greed, vanity and superficiality of the city, the people who live their lives out on his canvases seem to find joy and contentment in the simple things in life.

The paintings in this series have a rustic charm and glow with the warmth of humanity.

Here, man and nature coexist in peaceful harmony.

However, Nature is not always calm and gentle. The harsh effects of climate change and its immediate consequences are powerfully brought out by the artist in his depiction of those immediately affected by natural calamities. In one, a woman returns to her home after the tsunami. The land has been laid bare by the might of the ocean and she clings to all that is left of her past, her identity.
Canvas used for oil painting that is typically made of linen or cotton, stretched very tightly and tacked onto a wooden frame. Linen is considered far superior to the heavy cotton for a canvas.
