" The magic of abstract art "
Lammar began as a self-taught landscape painter in the eighties, creating watercolor paintings about the city and the country of Luxembourg, where he was born in 1956.
During the nineties, his work quickly evolved into more and more imaginary compositions and acrylic colours became the favourite media of the artist.
According to the artist, his love of traveling - he made a round the world trip from November 1992 to May 1994 - added to his interest in primitive cultures as well as increasing the use of non-traditional elements in his work, like sand, wood, rusted metal pieces, rope, and small stones.
Today, the speciality of Rom Lammar are abstract paintings influenced by sculptural forms and texture.
The magic of his compositions is based on several factors : the way he uses depth, light and shadow to set the overall mood of his paintings, the unique texture of the surface and the very specific patterns and elements of the composition that very often have an ethnic touch.
Although my creations are very intuitive and based on a great spontaneity, I never forget the basic principles of a good abstract composition : the right space division, unity, fineness of form and a certain degree of mystery. In many ways, my paintings can be considered as inner landscapes "
Lammar's artworks have been shown in galleries in Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland , France, Germany, Hungary and the United States.
In 2006, Rom receives the Gold Medal for his drawing "Lovers" and the Silver Medal for his abstract painting "Tanaka" from the "Cercle des Beaux Arts" in Verviers, Belgium.
In 2007, the well-known american author and poet Sam Hamill choses the abstract painting "Strong Enough" by Rom Lammar as cover picture for his newest release "Avocations".
