Biography
Michael was born and raised in New York City. He sold his first painting at the young age of 17. Michael went on to receive his B.F.A. in painting and sculpture and a M.A. in Theatrical Design from C.W. College of Long Island University. Michael Angelo learned to be a scenic artist and stage craftsperson while working in the off Broadway theatre scene. He continued to work in theatre, touring with Broadway Musicals such as The Lion King, Showboat and The Color Purple. Michael Angelo finds influence in Neo-Expressionist Style and he also continues to explore many different styles of drawing. He is particularly interested in the "wet world" of scuba diving, and as a certified diver, he finds a great deal of influence when underwater. He was honored to be chosen as a diver/artist aboard the 2002 USS Monitor expedition, which raised the gun turret. His ship wreck art has graced history books and dive guides. Michael, his wife and their two children currently reside in Chicago. He continues working for Broadway Musicals as a Stagehand doing sets, lights and props. "The viewer is asked to look at this imagery and create its story. The viewer is not made to be a passive by product of the artistic process, but rather an active element that gives meaning to the work."
