Biography | |
About me: I was born in London (United Kingdom) in 1962. My father is of Greek Italian descent and my mother is English.
My mother went to art school from a very early age, learning to dance and sing and my father enjoys creating wooden furniture.
I have lived in Brussels (Belgium) since 1993. My main passions are painting, dancing, singing and I enjoy teaching.
I began painting in 2004 and have developed my own abstract style and methods.
About my art:
After reading about prehistoric art and so-called 'primitive' artists, after admiring the drawings and sculptures created by these amazing people worldwide, from Australia to the Far East, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, I felt a strong link with the way they conceived and produced their artworks.
These people, nomads most of them, sedentary at times, literally lived their art, they intuitively understood the intimacy of the links between art and the Universe. They therefore respected, cherished and cultivated those bonds, seeing their Earthly existences and their surrounding environment as one. Their point of view drastically differed from ours nowadays, which is far more dichotomous.
Our roots as species are in the Earth, we live on it, we live from it, we breathe the air it produces, and drink the water which falls from the sky. In the process of our evolution, however, we have come to separate ourselves more and more from the planet which feeds us, and set ourselves above other species, and indeed above Nature itself.
My art is about reminding people about what got lost over time, it concerns itself with restoring a fairer balance between Man (the human species) and His Environment. Indeed, our future as a species lies in understanding the fundamental equation that setting us humans apart from our Environment is leading us to certain demise and extinction. The truth embodied in my art is therefore that of oneness with lll that surrounds us.
