BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, painter, designer, craftsman, BERNIE BISHOP.
Bernie, the son of nationally syndicated sports cartoonist, STEVE BISHOP, with McNitts, Inc., The Blue Book of College and Pro Sports, 1940's - 1960's. His uncle, ANDREW BISHOP, was an outdoor illustrator with N. F. A.
This was the beginning of Bernie's art education, studying art thoughout two continents, and with the help of the U. S. Military, he earned his third degree at the age of twenty-six. Bernie's foray into professional design began in the mid-60's at The May Company in downtown Cleveland, Oho. His mechanical Christmas window displays and intricate scenery dazzled shoppers. Later at the downtown Higbee Company department store Bernie designed and constructed the Magic Christmas Castle on Higbee's 10th floor - a holiday wonderland that delighted children and adults alike.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer said, "You really have to see it to appreciate it!" Even today the castle holds a special place in the hearts and minds of many Clevelanders as a reminder of magical Christmas's past.
Bernie was frequently sought after by set designers and producers to design and build sets, props and other scenic elements for movies, live theater, television and music videos. His work is ubiquitous in popular American culture; millions have unknowingly witnessed the results of his labor for almost half a century. Today Bernie devotes his time to the fine art of oil painting. His current artistic focus is on the boundless perfection of nature - its colors, its forms, its geometry and what we have to learn from it While Bernie's creativity and ideas are unlimited his life is not.
