Biography

Carmelo Cacciola, born on 1954 in Sicily, lives and paints in his hometown where he exhibited his works for the first time in 1987. His mysterious paintings on wood and on canvas reveal a natural and careful artistic research, expressed first through a figuration linked to a timeless classicity, evocative of dark atmospheres Caravaggisti  or of metaphysical environments - and, subsequently, matured and evolved into a synthetic and allusive not-figuration that it is primarily seeking the divine. So, the culmination of his creative concept isn't the representation but it's the comunication of a vital and psychic insight through symbols.

From “L’isola dentro – artisti siciliani a Firenze” edited by di Fiorella Nicosia, Italy

Canvas used for oil painting that is typically made of linen or cotton, stretched very tightly and tacked onto a wooden frame. Linen is considered far superior to the heavy cotton for a canvas.
