The Legends and Oral Traditions of Native Americans

Description

This image was inpired by a Native American legend involving a moon of the red ponies. In the tale I heard, a dream about the red ponies meant that everything would turn out okay, or in one's favor. For me, it evoked an image of a great red appaloosa mare that appeared and rode on the night winds. She is dreamlike and brings power and beauty in her wake. I painted this painting as my interpretation of this wonderful Native American legend.

Group Legends

Artwork in the 'Legends' Collection is inspired by the legends passed down through the ages from fathers and mothers to children in tribes across America. As I hear legends and then do research for accuracy in my artwork, I blend history of a people with the beauty of their stories in an image or interpretation. In these paintings it is emotion, and a legendary almost mythical quality that I want to pull out of the colors and movement.
