Xochimilco: trajineras, flowers and landscape Xochimilco is the living memory of the time when Hernan Cortes gave name to the area he called the “ Venice of the New World” in the Valley of Mexico . This lake is full of small earthen parcels anchored to the lakebed by the roots of the stately native Ahuejote tree where a profusion of flowers and vegetables are grown. The garlanded boats, trajineras, found today on the Xochimilco canals, are the poetic evocation of the floating gardens of past eras, those times which NARET illustrates with passion and wisdom through the charm of his reflections, colors and composition.
